Travel with me to know El Salvador!!

El Salvador is located in Central America, between the north and south of the American Continent. It limits to the west with Guatemala, to the north with Honduras, to the east with Honduras and Nicaragua in the Gulf of Fonseca and to the south with the Pacific Ocean (Figure 1). The territorial extension of approximately 21,040.79 square kilometers, with 296 kilometers of coastline in the Pacific that extends throughout the country.

How is the dress of El Salvador?

Traditional costumes
In El Salvador there are different types of typical costumes, in which the majority are used in different festivities, although there are some towns that still use these. In the female costume it is common to see elements such as a scapular, a shawl, a cloth and different colored ornaments, and with cotton fabric and they can be with a skirt and a blouse, or a dress, in footwear they are used flip flops. In the male suit it is common to see a cotton suit, also in traditional festivals, modern jeans are used, with a blanket shirt, sandals or boots, and a hat. They are really rural in nature, and present different variations depending on the place.

In the festivities or patron saint festivals, dances are performed using these typical costumes. Over the years the suits have been modified, having a little more volume and colors in their styles. The typical costume was no longer used in the general population, although there are still people who keep this tradition alive, so the costume is used only on special occasions.

What is the gastronomy of El Salvador?

The basic diet of Salvadorans consisted in the past of the «tortilla» (wheels of corn dough, about ten to fifteen centimeters in diameter and one wide, cooked on the comal), salt and «parados» beans or beans. parboiled. Currently, the diet has been expanded with rice, vegetables and some meats. During the coffee cuts, chengas are still usually given, much larger and thicker tortillas than the previous ones, made of very dark corn or maicillo (grass with small grains in bundles), on which beans and salt are placed; sometimes they also carry cheese and another accessory. These are part of the «with what» or accompaniment of the tortillas.

A typical Salvadoran meal would be unthinkable without the famous pupusas, tortillas, corn or rice, stuffed with cheese, cheese with loroco (a plant whose flower is edible), ground pork rinds, either pork or chicken or beans, the most common « revolts» (they are those that have more than one ingredient). Others, less common are called specialty such as chicken, chipilín (small edible leaves), pepescas (fried fish), squashes (kind of pumpkin), garlic, cilantro (edible herb), blackberry boil, paper, chorizo, jalapeno, shrimp, etc.

What language is used in El Salvador?

In El Salvador the official language is Spanish. the way of speaking can mix words of indigenous origin as in gastronomy, causing what are the different idioms or Salvadorans.

A small amount of the population speaks the Nahuat language, as in Izalco and other towns, currently does not take the need to learn it, or is only remembered by older people.
